An exhibition by Drawing and Applied Arts students at the Corinium Museum in Cirencester

Archaeology lends understanding to our sense of time and place; human beings have a need to relate to and compare symbols and concepts, and discovery – a key facet of the learning process – is at the heart of this.

Drawing and Applied Arts students have unearthed a range of creative responses to some of the artefacts on display in the Corinium Museum. Their work, centring around the theme of archaeology, is displayed in the museum to highlight the influence they have drawn from its artefacts. Collectively, the work explores the meaning of archaeology in its broadest sense, with self-discovery a thread that runs throughout.
Echoing the mosaics in the museum, the pieces reflect many different journeys. In their practice, students used media relevant to their work, exploring different methods of communicating their own interpretation of the theme. Although the range of materials used throughout Unearthed is diverse, the tone, ideas and themes flow as one.
